School is in session

Greeting fellow Xenos, Heretic, and Imperials

Every so often I like to brush up on my 40K (or 30K history) and just read up about things. Even if I have read them hundreds of time. So for newbies and vets alike I'll be posting up my readings for the day and what I think about it all. Today's topic? None other than our favorite hole in the universe.... Wait.... I meant warp tear.. yeah... warp tear... Ahem, anyway today we will be talking about the one, the only EYE OF TERROR!!!! (Dun dun duuuun) which ever so happily loaned it's name to this blog. Without further ado here she is.. or he... or shem? (Slaanesh did kinda cause it after all)
                                                             The Eye of Terror
The Eye of Terror (Or the Ocularis Terribus, as it is named in High Gothic) is the largest and most well known warp rift in the galaxy.Basically it's just a stirring pot where the warp has bled over into the real.Geographically it is situated to the northwest of Terra itself. (I wouldn't recommend looking for it. It seems like a pretty bad spot.) After the defeat of the traitors at Terra most fled into the Eye of Terror. Mounting further incursions into Imperial space from here also.

Origins of the Eye of Terror
Over 11,000 Terran years ago (That's 77,000 dog years) the xenos race known as the Eldar pretty well reigned supreme. The masters of the Universe had become so (Masterful?) that they grew bored.
(Not THAT Master of the Universe, pay attention)
War was a trivial thing to them mostly waged by machines, labor was non existent. In their boredom they gave away to their more hedonistic and sadistic sides, forming pleasure cults. The pleasure cults served to drive the Eldar into the darkest places of their psyche. Pleasure became harder and harder to achieve. Killers stalked the streets looking for victims just in hopes of feeling something.

Many Eldar however were sickened by what their race was becoming, fled in ships to the furthest planets they could reach. Little did they know even now it was too late, for the entire race was doomed. As the "Dark" Eldar continued their ways unabated a presence was growing in the warp. Despite having seen the sleeping "Goddess" in visions for years, the Eldar continued their ways. Suddenly a powerful psionic scream was heard by every Eldar alive. The Chaos God/Goddess Slaanesh (A.K.A She Who Thirsts or Slaaneth) had been born. The epicentre of his/her/ birth was within the heart of the Eldar empire itself. Instantly every Eldar within Thousand of light years had their souls ripped away from their body. The outpouring of such great force and spirits caused the Eye of Terror. Turning once verdant Eldar Crone Worlds into Daemon infested Daemon Worlds.

The Eye of Terror in the 40th Millennium

As mentioned before almost 10,000 years ago when the rebel legions were defeated at the Gates of Terra most were to retreat to this warp tear. Knowing (Or at least hoping) their new found allegiances with the Chaos Gods would protect them --Also knowing no Loyalist in their right mind would follow. While in the Eye of Terror the Chaos Legions would plot to one day re-take the Empire that was stolen from them. Settling on Daemon Worlds, with many of the Primarchs now Daemon Princes themselves, they would train, and rebuild their forces. Time passes differently in the Eye of Terror as well. The flow of time is unpredictable in the Warp, mere seconds could be thousands of years, or days could just have been minutes. The planets inside the Eye vary as well, depending on which power holds sway. Khorne's planets will be full of aena pits, gladiator battles, and just pure violence. While Nurgle's planets might be filled with forests, slowly being destroyed by rot and plague.

                                                       (The Warp corrupting a planet)

                                                           The Cadian Gate
The Inperial world of Cadia sits next to the closest stable way into The Eye of Terror. As such it is the most heavily fortified and manned planet in the Imperium. This is usually the first target of a Chaos incursion into real space. The latest attack saw the planet defeated and being claimed by Chaos, however the Imperial Navy has retaken the space around it, stranding the forces of Chaos on the planet.
