Betrayal at Calth Miniature Game

Greeting Hertics! I happened upon this from FLGS facebook page and thought it would be nice of me to share.

So as far as I'm concerned, it's here. All the rumors for (The past year almost) seems to have finally paid off. Plastic Horus Heresy is on it's way. Now we just have to wait for price and models. Last I heard both sides would be identical (Model wise) and the model count was fairly decent. So hopefully we see a fairly decent price come with this, let's be honest though. It IS GW we're talking about here. Their latest ''Bundles" haven't saved anyone money, Hopefully they realize though that stuff is practically them printing money and realize they can do to lower the prices some. If this is a limited run I would see this being sold out instantly -- looking at you Tidewall Rampart.

I for one am ECSTATIC about this. I've been wanting to try 30K ever since it was made but you know... forgeworld is expensive. So hopefully we'll see this play out into our favor. Not only will it help out GW but Forgeworld is going to make some money off this as well. With easy accessible HH starter sets, everyone is eventually going to want a Primarch of their own, or the Legion specific squads. So, keep an ear to the ground, a hold on your wallet, and faith in the Emperor (Or your chaos god of choice) and get ready!

School is in session

Greeting fellow Xenos, Heretic, and Imperials

Every so often I like to brush up on my 40K (or 30K history) and just read up about things. Even if I have read them hundreds of time. So for newbies and vets alike I'll be posting up my readings for the day and what I think about it all. Today's topic? None other than our favorite hole in the universe.... Wait.... I meant warp tear.. yeah... warp tear... Ahem, anyway today we will be talking about the one, the only EYE OF TERROR!!!! (Dun dun duuuun) which ever so happily loaned it's name to this blog. Without further ado here she is.. or he... or shem? (Slaanesh did kinda cause it after all)
                                                             The Eye of Terror
The Eye of Terror (Or the Ocularis Terribus, as it is named in High Gothic) is the largest and most well known warp rift in the galaxy.Basically it's just a stirring pot where the warp has bled over into the real.Geographically it is situated to the northwest of Terra itself. (I wouldn't recommend looking for it. It seems like a pretty bad spot.) After the defeat of the traitors at Terra most fled into the Eye of Terror. Mounting further incursions into Imperial space from here also.

Origins of the Eye of Terror
Over 11,000 Terran years ago (That's 77,000 dog years) the xenos race known as the Eldar pretty well reigned supreme. The masters of the Universe had become so (Masterful?) that they grew bored.
(Not THAT Master of the Universe, pay attention)
War was a trivial thing to them mostly waged by machines, labor was non existent. In their boredom they gave away to their more hedonistic and sadistic sides, forming pleasure cults. The pleasure cults served to drive the Eldar into the darkest places of their psyche. Pleasure became harder and harder to achieve. Killers stalked the streets looking for victims just in hopes of feeling something.

Many Eldar however were sickened by what their race was becoming, fled in ships to the furthest planets they could reach. Little did they know even now it was too late, for the entire race was doomed. As the "Dark" Eldar continued their ways unabated a presence was growing in the warp. Despite having seen the sleeping "Goddess" in visions for years, the Eldar continued their ways. Suddenly a powerful psionic scream was heard by every Eldar alive. The Chaos God/Goddess Slaanesh (A.K.A She Who Thirsts or Slaaneth) had been born. The epicentre of his/her/ birth was within the heart of the Eldar empire itself. Instantly every Eldar within Thousand of light years had their souls ripped away from their body. The outpouring of such great force and spirits caused the Eye of Terror. Turning once verdant Eldar Crone Worlds into Daemon infested Daemon Worlds.

                                                                  (Look Familiar?)

The Eye of Terror in the 40th Millennium

As mentioned before almost 10,000 years ago when the rebel legions were defeated at the Gates of Terra most were to retreat to this warp tear. Knowing (Or at least hoping) their new found allegiances with the Chaos Gods would protect them --Also knowing no Loyalist in their right mind would follow. While in the Eye of Terror the Chaos Legions would plot to one day re-take the Empire that was stolen from them. Settling on Daemon Worlds, with many of the Primarchs now Daemon Princes themselves, they would train, and rebuild their forces. Time passes differently in the Eye of Terror as well. The flow of time is unpredictable in the Warp, mere seconds could be thousands of years, or days could just have been minutes. The planets inside the Eye vary as well, depending on which power holds sway. Khorne's planets will be full of aena pits, gladiator battles, and just pure violence. While Nurgle's planets might be filled with forests, slowly being destroyed by rot and plague.

                                                       (The Warp corrupting a planet)

                                                           The Cadian Gate
The Inperial world of Cadia sits next to the closest stable way into The Eye of Terror. As such it is the most heavily fortified and manned planet in the Imperium. This is usually the first target of a Chaos incursion into real space. The latest attack saw the planet defeated and being claimed by Chaos, however the Imperial Navy has retaken the space around it, stranding the forces of Chaos on the planet.

My First Attempts at Terrain

So as you should know now, I'm a father of two children and my wife is the only one who works. Which mean models are hard to come by, but not just models. Terrain is another part of our hobby, and everyone knows without good terrain you just won't have a good game. Me and my cousin have started battling each other, our first game had maybe two pieces of terrain, and let me tell you. It wasn't fun. The battle didn't flow well, the field looked bland and it was just rough. So i've taken it upon myself to purchase a hot glue gun, some popsicle sticks, and to use whatever I can find laying around the house. Whatever I can find lying around usually means diaper boxes and cereal boxes. Not the best stuff to use I know, but in a pinch it seemed to turn out pretty decent.

So without further ado, from the Eye of Terror itself I give you

SEREDENS CREATIONS!!!!!! (Imagine mystical music in the background )

First off I have something real simple. just a section of a ruined wall. It's not fancy, it's still unpainted but it does what it's supposed to do.

The second thing I've made is.. well... I'm not entirely sure what to call it. A silo? Oil tank? Beats me. Again, not fancy, not painted but it works. You can fit a squad of 5 terminators up there (The last one has half his base hanging off but what the hey?)

My third little terrain feature are two craters. I molded them from some of the bakeable clay (got it from wal-mart for pretty cheap for a pound) I've only gotten around to basing it... as you see but I feel like they came out pretty good.

Then my fourth (and Fifth?) things are literally just some rocks I dug out the drive way and hot glued together the best I could to some cardboard. Gonna get some PVA glue and put sand on it later but I don't have any at the moment. Works great for LoS blocking and making a kill zone.

The little trick I've done with all the carboard I kind of half baked it up myself. I cut two pieces how i needed them (Especially from the cereal boxes) then broke popsicle sticks however long i needed them and hot glued them between the two pieces. Gave the cardboard alot more stability and makes it a little tougher. I'm thinking about trying to tape around the edges to cover up the gap, but we'll see.

Introductions and such

Getting back into Warhammer 40K after quite a while of a break and figured I'd try starting up my own blog to keep myself motivated for it. To all you Heretics, Xenos and Imperials I will be known as Sereden, and I invite you into my personal world of hobbying, modeling, ranting and just rambling sometimes.

As the post says this first one is just for introductions so I'll start there and see where the night takes me. My family lives in Northern Louisiana, right at the border of Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Born and mostly raised here. I'm a 24 year old stay at home dad (Strange I know. Gender roles seems to have been swapped a bit) me and my wife have two children so i don't get much time to put aside for my favorite sci-fi universe. I first got into 40K while i was deployed to Kuwait a few years back and they had "Emperors Mercy" By Henry Zhou in the PX on base. It looked like the only book worthwhile to read as I had quickly exhausted all the books I brought with me. So I picked it up, paid the measly 8 or 9 bucks they wanted for it and brought it back to my bunk. Needless to say I fell in love almost instantly. I was absorbed from the first page to the last, and as soon as I finished went back to the PX to gather up every book I could find with Warhammer 40K on the cover. Thankfully a few other posts and bases we went to had a little more of a selection.

As a soldier the brutal unrestrained violence appealed to me. I could imagine myself laying behind a trench, shooting hopelessly with a weapon at an enemy I had no hope of stopping but knew I had to try, or to flip it and be charging an enemy with thoughts of murder. (No I'm not psychotic. I said i could IMAGINE it.) It was like I finally found my Star Wars. My Battlestar Galactica. I lived, breathed, drank and ate Warhammer 40K. I would get on the 40K wiki and just read random articles. Needless to say I was obsessed.

Something about the Chaos Marines called to me. Their baroque armor, their ruthless attitudes and disdain for everything just drew me in. It's not anything I can explain to anyone else, I'm sure plenty of Chaos fans know exactly what I'm talking about. Not to say other factions didn't appeal to me. I'm a huge fan of the Raven Guard, Tyranids, Even the Imperial gu... I mean Astra Millitarum.

The Horus Heresy was my next step into my new world. At the moment I personally own half the books and have read all of them but the latest. I don't care if everyone in the world tells me it's a bad book. I'm going to absorb it and love it. The exploits of Mankind and the corruption of Chaos is just something I love to read about. To see how twisted and brutal Horus becomes, but still sees himself as righteous, and how the legions unite against each other. It never gets old to me.

As far as the tabletop goes I have a decent sized Dark Angels force, that I sometimes like to use as Raven Guard as well with some units switched out. I have a small Chaos army as well as a Tyranid army. I've recently had to sell most of my models to make ends meet for a bit so my forces are severely depleted. I also don't miss a good oppurtunity to rush into melee, imagining my little plastic mens trading blows with other plastic mens is something I can't resist. So I'll occasionally post Bat-reps as well. They'll be few and far between though. Stay at home dad doesnt leave much time for playing.

That's pretty well my roots in 40K and just some general info about me. Would be nice to have a fairly successful blog and to make some friends along the way who share the passion for 40K (Ignoring GW's prices and some of their practices) to chat with and tell me how they think I'm doing. So that'll be it for tonight. Kids are ready for bed and I got stuff to do after they go to sleep.
